Your Homestay experience
Living with a New Zealand host family is the best way to immerse yourself in our culture. Most homes in Whangārei are traditional New Zealand homes, ground-level houses with gardens, fruit trees, and outdoor living areas. Many of our host families live rurally with pets and require a bus ride to school which offers a rural living experience.
What to expect from your Host Family:
● Inclusion: You aren't just a guest; you are a member of the family. They will provide a comfortable home environment
● Support: Families involve you in daily conversations, trips, and Kiwi traditions.
● Safety: All our families are vetted and follow the NZ Ministry of Education Code of Practice for Pastoral Care to ensure your wellbeing.
Your Role in the Family: Homestay is a two-way relationship built on respect. We ask our students to:
● Be polite, considerate, and maintain high standards of behavior.
● Join in and take part in family living and lifestyle (or something like that - ie don’t hide in your room)
● Join in with common household tasks (like helping with dishes).
