Kamo High School is well served by a network of free Ministry of Education bus runs, fare-paying services. New students will get bus information on Orientation Day, but it is well worth ringing the bus contractor to check times and exact pick up points if you have further questions.
This service is provided by the Ministry of Education for students who generally live outside the Kamo area (more than 4.8 km from the School). The transport is free from Kamo out to the mid-way point of the next nearest secondary school. Beyond this point students may be responsible for their own transport or may need to pay a fee. Students inside the 4.8km are expected by the Ministry of Education to use city fare-paying services or find their own way to school.
Students living outside the KAMO ZONE but on a MOE bus route
Students who do not attend their nearest high school but choose to attend KHS will be able to travel on available Ministry buses (where there is room on them). This is by mutual agreement amongst most of the local secondary schools. These students will have to pay a nominal set fare to travel to their nearest local high school and then travel the rest of the way to Kamo High School on our pay "link" buses. So, for example, students East of Whangarei can travel on a Ministry bus as far as WBHS/WGHS or Tikipunga Sports Grounds, and then travel the rest of the way to Kamo High School on our pay "link" buses.
In zone students who live more than 2.4 km from their nearest Ministry bus route to school, may be eligible for a transport subsidy from the Ministry of Education. Information is available on the Ministry of Education website. Please contact the contractor of the service you wish to use for precise details of running times and/or pick up points. The following areas are serviced by buses provided and managed by the Ministry of Education:
Students travelling from the east (Ocean Beach/Pataua South/Parua Bay/Onerahi), south (Portland/Maungakaramea) and west (Maungatapere/Maunu Heights) are able to travel on the Ministry operated bus services to Whangarei Girls' & Boys' High Schools’ Bus Bay. All students not attending their nearest secondary school have to pay for their full journey to the school of their choice. There will be one fare ($2.00 / $20 for 10 trip card) for the first leg and then the shuttle bus cost from WGHS Bus Bay to Kamo ($2 per trip or $20.00 for a 10 trip card).
