Te Kamo High welcomes relationships with agents representing International Students from all around the globe. We hope this page provides you with everything you may need in order to get an overview of our International Student Offer. We accept and work with groups (1-6 weeks), short (3 month tuition) and long term (year+) students
Location: Te Kamo High is situated in Kamo Village, 10 minutes from Whangarei City, the largest city in Northland New Zealand. We are a 30 minute internal flight from Auckland airport (our preferred travel method to get students to our district) or a 2.5 hour car / bus trip (which can be priced upon request) Our full location page has more information Here
Agent Relationships
Te Kamo works with a wide range of agents and schools. As a signatory to the code of practice, we are robust in our approach, ensuring we have signed agent agreements that are clear on expectations for both parties, as well as a robust referencing process. Quality is a hallmark of our service, and we aim to work with agents who represent our similar values and outlooks.
Pre Arrival:
Our team is always on hand to answer any questions agents may have, (with 100% of agents recently surveyed stating they are happy with our response times.)
We provide a pre-arrival document to students outlining our school, culture, expectations, opportunities and introduction to our team and school. This is aimed at answering any questions they may have pre-arrival
Arrival:
Students will be met at the airport or at their homestay house by their host family and a member of the International Staff team where they will receive a welcome pack and some supporting information that will support them as they settle into their homestay environment.
As part of their students settling in, we host an orientation day which will support amongst other things:
Getting to know each other opportunities
Subject choices
A tour of the school and local area (if this has not been done by the homestay)
An introduction to New Zealand Culture
Expectations and standards of an international student
Our teams roles and responsibilities, and how we are hear to support students
Students are buddied up with either existing international or domestic students to support their settling in
Student and School Life:
Te Kamo school life is centered around our values, which dictate and lead how we approach each and every day. Our school is culturally diverse, with a wide range of ethnicities and cultures represented domestically as well as internationally. As a true bicultural school, we practice Tikanga (Māori traditions) daily as it punctuates our approach to environment and learning.
Te Kamo school environment has recently been upgraded with two new large learning areas which house most classes and subjects, designed with our own cultural narrative informed by local Māori iwi of our area. This creates an environment conducive with excellence.
Students at Te Kamo can choose from a full range of subjects, but we expect all international students to take English. Our course prospectus can be found Here:
Students choose 5 subjects, and we often find that our international students like to complete courses such as:
Outdoor education or PE
Hospitality
One of the arts
Wood or metal work
Te Kamo Students study in depth with class times being 1.5 hrs long, interspersed with two daily breaks and a wananga class - where students get to focus on an area of passion.
Te Kamo is proud that our Academic outcomes supersede that of the national average for schools with the same decile population on the whole. Most international students will study at year 12, where our pass rates exceed national averages for students completing NCEA
Sports plays a huge part in Te Kamo Culture, and an overview of the sports we complete on site, as well as in the local community can be found Here:

Student Trips
At Te Kamo students will be offered a range of trips and experiences, ranging from a visit to the top of the North Island at Cape Reinga, to an opportunity to visit the activity heart of NZ in Rotorua, and lots of other day trips. Each term we consult our students on their desired destinations and make it our priority to try and support them to achieve their aspirations. In conjunction, we work with student tour providers to support and facilitate out of term trips across New Zealand
Many students will also attend class trips with domestic students from overnight camps, cultural kapa haka events, and outdoor education opportunities. Our aim is to maximise the experience our international students have when with us.
International Team Culture:
Te Kamo aims to provide a unique experience for each student, working with them as individuals to understand their aims and aspirations for their time here. Our dedicated team will work to put students in touch with local clubs, facilitate relationship building, and tailor our program to our students.
If you have a student who wants to do something specific, talk to us! We will find out information and do all we can to make their dream a reality.
We have previously curated opportunities for students to complete:
Surfing Academies
Golf Academies
Diving Academies
At Te Kamo we aim to have no two experiences be the same. We are large enough to offer most things, but small enough to curate bespoke programs for our students. Reach out and ask us how we can help
Group Tours
At Te Kamo we welcome enquiries from group tours, and have a range of itineraries we can put together, or work with you on your own aspirations. Our Homestay manager has a range of homestay accommodation available where students can share their homestay experience with a friend. See our groups section for more information Here
ODENZ:
Te Kamo High School is the only Outdoor Education New Zealand affiliated school in Northland New Zealand. This cements our commitment to taking learning beyond the classroom. Our educators are focussed on ensuring we maximise the opportunities provided by the North's wonderful environment, and utilise this to enhance our curriculum. We work with other ODENZ schools on an agreed pricing schedule for agents signed with ODENZ, so please speak to us about this opportunity.
Fees and commision:
Te Kamo works to ensure that our international fees offer both value for money whilst being affordable for international students. Reach out to us for our latest prices.
