TKHS CAA Term 2 2025 Timetable
To gain an NCEA qualification at any level, students need to achieve a 20-credit co-requisite using the new Literacy and Numeracy standards. Students achieve these co-requisite by sitting external Common Assessment Activities (CAAs) that are in the form of digital exams.
Literacy and numeracy are foundational skills that students need to ready them to transition into further education or the workplace. At Te Kamo High School, students are being exposed to numeracy and literacy rich content in all subject areas, not just English and Mathematics.
To learn more about the literacy and numeracy requirements for NCEA please click on this link https://www2.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/subjects/litnum/ that will take you to the NZQA website that explains this in more depth.
The exams are:
- Numeracy: 10 credits
- Literacy Writing: 5 credits
- Literacy Reading: 5 credits
Year 10 - 13 students: All senior students who have not achieved the level one literacy or numeracy co-requisite will be enrolled to sit these exams. giving them the opportunity to gain ten numeracy credits and ten literacy credits.
Year 9 students: Year 9 took part in progressive assessment tests earlier this year, students who were deemed ready will sit the upcoming examinations and have the opportunity to gain the literacy and/or numeracy co-requisite.
All enrolled students will login to the NZQA student portal, we will be practicing this in class this week. This portal is where the exams take place, where results can be accessed, and feedback seen from their examination attempts.
Akonga/students who do not achieve in this assessment will be given a second opportunity in term three of this year and can choose to participate in numeracy and literacy wānanga classes for additional support (student selected) and some senior students will be place in these wānanga to ensure they have the opportunity to practice for these assessments.
